Update post.

Alongside learning how to write short fiction, I’ve also been paying attention to where certain stories want to live.

Some pieces feel quiet and internal. Others lean darker, heavier, and more immediate. This second short story falls into that latter category.

When It Came Into the House, I Told Her Not to Look was published on r/nosleep, a space that thrives on tension, unease, and stories that feel like they’re being confessed rather than told. It’s a story about rules, inheritance, and the things we’re taught not to question—especially when fear is passed down alongside love.

👉 Read the story here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/nosleep/comments/1plueur/when_it_came_into_the_house_i_told_her_not_to_look/

Even more exciting, this piece has also been adapted into a narrated story on YouTube. Hearing it spoken aloud—given breath, pacing, and tone—was a strange and rewarding experience. It made the atmosphere feel even more alive, and reminded me just how much power there is in sound, silence, and timing.

🎧 Listen to the narration here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USfmUPR0EYo

Thank you for following along!

Update post.

Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time learning how to write short stories—and it’s changed the way I think about my work.

For a long time, I didn’t fully understand how important short fiction is to an author. I used to think of it as something smaller, almost secondary to longer projects. But the more I write in this form, the more I realize how much it matters. Short stories ask you to be intentional, to say exactly what you mean, and to trust the reader with the rest. Every sentence has to pull its weight.

I’ve written several short pieces recently, and each one has taught me something different—about pacing, voice, and how much emotion you can fit into a very small space. While not all of them have found a home yet, two have been accepted, which has been incredibly encouraging as I continue figuring this form out.

One of those pieces is a flash fiction story called The Voice I Kept, featured by Anomaly. It’s a quiet, speculative piece about grief, memory, and the ways we try to hold on to what we’ve lost. Seeing it published there felt like a real milestone for me—not because it’s big, but because it’s precise.

👉 Read The Voice I Kept here:

https://www.patreon.com/posts/voice-i-kept-by-144673102?utm_campaign=patron_engagement&utm_source=post_link&post_id=144673102&token=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6IkpXVCJ9.eyJyZWRpc19rZXkiOiJpYTI6ZGRkZDM3NGUtNzdlNi00MWQ1LWE5MGYtM2NhYWRkNGE1NGQyIiwicG9zdF9pZCI6MTQ0NjczMTAyLCJwYXRyb25faWQiOjE5NDc2MTk4NX0.DJfNfSiTIh-wxQv-ZBL7U0H4n6sU1HsakZFPpzeI-uM&utm_id=01852566-5fa7-430d-9cfa-719562f16cc9&utm_medium=email

I’m learning that short stories may be brief, but they play a big role. They shape the larger body of work in quieter ways—by sharpening instincts, strengthening voice, and reminding me why I write in the first place.

It’s an honor to become part of the HWA community!

As an Affiliate member I now have access to some incredible benefits. This membership isn’t just a badge of honor, it’s a new chapter in my journey, one that aligns with the haunted worlds I create.

Also, I wrote a piece that was published for the HWA blog titled:

“Halloween Haunts: Against the Fog — Halloween by the Sea”

In it, I write about coastal October nights, foggy harbors, carved turnip faces, and how those rhythms bleed into my novel.

👉 Read it here

Seeing that Literary Titan chose to spotlight The Lights of Greyfare is validation that the weird, atmospheric, emotionally haunted stories I love do resonate beyond my own head. I hope this feature brings the book to new readers who’ll walk the coast of Greyfare in their imaginations, feel the fog press in, and remember that sometimes the scariest monsters are the ones that echo what we hide inside ourselves.

Thank you to Literary Titan and to you, whoever is reading this, for being part of the journey.

Here’s to more stories — darker, deeper, more unsettling — on the horizon.

https://literarytitan.com/2025/09/28/alive-and-forgotten/

I’m honored to share that my interview, “Juno Guadalupe Is Looking for The Lights of Greyfare,” was just published on The Ginger Nuts of Horror—a site I’ve long admired for its deep love of all things gothic and unsettling.

In the conversation, I talk about:

Growing up in the mountains and how photography, like writing, captures fleeting stories.

Kat Calder, the layered heroine of The Lights of Greyfare—she’s equal parts familiar friend and mystery.

How folklore and small-town textures shaped the mood of the novel.

My belief that horror is inherently political—a reflection and a warning, rather than just a label.

It means the world to me that The Ginger Nuts of Horror gave The Lights of Greyfare a platform that respects nuance and quiet dread. If you’ve wondered what lies behind the flicker of those strange lights, here’s your invitation.

Read the full interview here!

https://gnofhorror.com/juno-guadalupe-is-looking-for-the-lights-of-greyfare/

Blog post.

My husband had a job working for the state. He was young, and it was temporary, but it left a lasting impression. He worked with IT, tasked with designing a more efficient system for social workers to track their cases. This was long ago: back when technology was just beginning to reshape daily life.

The urgency was clear: social workers were overwhelmed, especially in larger cities. They struggled to keep track of the kids in their care, particularly those who had “aged out” and slipped away, labeled as runaways. My husband told me how sobering it was to realize that the numbers he reviewed weren’t just data: they were real people, real kids, whose options were painfully limited. Funding might be available for children, but once they turned 17 or 18, the support narrowed, the safety net thinned.

Since then, technology has improved. The networks are broader and more connected, but one truth hasn’t changed: children who age out of foster care remain at risk, and many still need guidance, shelter, and community well beyond their teenage years.

My story is a work of fiction, but it’s also a light on the social issues that shaped it.

Awareness matters.
